Scaled Giants
Calling these huge creatures ‘dragons’ isn’t necessarily the most correct tterm, but it is the one that has stuck around. In reality, they more resemble turtles than the mythical winged dragons of old. However, their heads bear some semblance to their legendary namesakes, and their shells are segmented more akin to a tough, scaly lizard than a proper turtle.
Good Omens
A sea dragon is generally considered a good omen among sailors. Though their passing can come as a surprise and damage or even sink ships if one is unfortunate, they aren’t inherently malicious. The few documented encounters with them rather describe them as curious and calm.
Their eyes are intelligent, and they seem to pay attention as seamen speak with them, though they offer no response beyond simple grunts.
Hoarders of treasure
One thing they do have in common with the dragons of old is their love for treasure. Some stories tell of sea dragons bedecked in treasure, embedding it in their scales almost as jewelry. There are even accounts of sailors trading with the giants, offering up shiny pieces and receiving artefacts of the long-lost world in return.
